What’s new at the Potter Valley Community Health Center?
We are thrilled with our new educational software, Chairside, available to our dental patients. This innovative software allows our patients to learn about dental care while they recline in the dentist chair. From preventing cavities to viewing how a crown is made, this animated software will truly help our patients to become more educated about the importance of dental care in their everyday lives. Funds to purchase the software were obtained through Mendocino County Tobacco Settlement Grant monies.
Our Telemedicine program is up and running. We are planning on using the equipment to allow our patients to have a consultation with a specialist without having to travel out of the area.
In spite of budget cuts, we are continuing to find ways to increase the lab services we provide. Through fundraising efforts, we recently obtained a Cholestech LDX blood screening machine that tests for cholesterol, liver enzymes, and blood sugar. This will allow us to service and provide the care our community needs all in one day.
We have a new logo for the Potter Valley Community Health Center. It is an actual drawing of the front of the clinic. Look for it on all future correspondence!
Dr. Sandoval is our new dentist. His background includes a Dental Director at the Varner Unit of the Correctional Medical Services in Arkansas. He obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Michoacan University of San Nicolas De Hildago. Both patients and staff alike are thrilled to have him at the clinic. Dr. Sandoval also speaks Spanish.
We welcome new Medical Assistant, Debbie Mooreland. She will be one of the first to take care of you when you first arrive in the medical examination room.
Debbie Reardan, a local resident of Potter Valley, is the new part-time Administrative Assistant. She will be assisting Executive Director Jeff King and Billing and Benefits Director Catherine Andres.
In the Dental Office, we welcome Heidi Garcia, our new Registered Dental Assistant Extended Function.
We are proud of Lorena Delgado who recently received a scholarship from the Alliance for Rural Community Health (ARCH). She was awarded scholarship monies to assist her in the pursuit of education in a healthcare career. Lorena is enrolled in a dental assistant program.
We welcome new Board of Director members Nadine Paulin and Laura Waidelich. We appreciate them volunteering for this very important role in the clinic.
The blood drive we held on Friday, March 7, 2008 was a success! The event was held to benefit the Ukiah Valley Medical Center, Sutter Lakeside Hospital, and the Frank Howard Hospital. This was a great opportunity to donate blood directly to our local communities. Look for another blood drive this summer.
Special thanks go out to our staff for a notable increase in medical and dental visits in 2007! The medical department averages 300 medical visits and the dental department averages 900 dental visits.
